Sydney Australia vacations
Top things to to
Who hasn’t dreamed of visiting “down under”? Sydney Australia vacations have something for everyone, and are well-suited for the senior traveler.
For elderly travelers, trekking through the outback may not necessarily be the most prudent choice, but the city of Sydney offers a mellow experience for all ages. When we think of Sydney Australia vacations, the images that we conjure usually include Sydney Harbour. It deserves its reputations as the most beautiful natural harbour in the world, and includes the Opera House as its jewel. Manly Ferry Perfect for seniors (or travelers of any age), the Manly Ferry is great way to see Sydney Harbour. Try to get a place at the back of the ferry so that you (and your camera) get the best views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House as you depart from Sydney Cove. The trip to Manly will only last about 30 minutes but is a “must-do” for all Sidney Australia vacations. An alternative to the ferry ride are the many Harbour Cruises offered. These are more expensive, but are longer duration and offer a commentary. Harbour Cruises are a great experience, but I can’t help thinking that the view is the exactly the same from the Ferry as the Cruise. Walk from Manly Wharf to Shelly Beach Manly is more like a quaint seaside resort than part of the biggest city in Australia. It offers countless cafes and shops to browse throughout the day. Sydney Australia vacations should include the world-famous Manly Beach with the coastal cliffs back-dropped with the city skyline.
As you approach Shelly Beach watch for “rock art”, picnic areas and lovely shaded areas for a rest stop.
Venture on for cliff top views and, depending on the time of year, the hope of spotting the Manly Penguin and even humpback whales. Enroute back to Sydney Harbour by ferry, enjoy the beautiful sunset behind the Opera House and Harbour Bridge as you cruise home (insert “sigh” here). Sydney Ferry: From Circular Quay to Darling Harbour This little excursion lasts only about 10 minutes, but takes you under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and is another great opportunity for the shutterbug. Darling Harbour offers many attractions including the Imax Theatre, The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Aquarium, and the Monorail. It’s a popular playground for locals and tourists alike. Sydney Tower Skywalk An alternative to the popular “Bridge Walk” (where you scale the bridge after extensive training, and expense) is the “Tower Skywalk.” It’s twice as high as the Bridge Walk, (in fact, it’s the same height as the Eiffel Tower), is less expensive, and is easier and more suited for the energetic senior traveler. Still, it takes an adventuresome attitude, but offers the best view in town as the reward. The price of admission also includes “OzTrek”, which is a virtual adventure across Australia with 3D holograms, 180-degree cinema screens, surround sound and heart-pounding real-motion seating. This is a must-do for Sydney Australia vacations.
Royal Botanic Gardens The Royal Botanic Gardens is a beautiful park on the foreshore of the Harbour and should be part of all Sydney Australia vacations. Visit the cafe in the middle of the Royal Botanic Gardens or pack a lunch, find a patch of grass and watch the boats go by. The Royal Botanic Gardens is a must place to visit during all Sydney Australia vacations and it won't cost you a penny. Sydney’s diversity is what makes it the multicultural epicentre of Australia. From Chinatown to fish & chips on Balmoral Beach. Few places in the world offer such diversity within a 20 minute drive from the city, where you can reach mountains, beaches, lakes, and world class restaurants specializing in flavours from every continent.
Sydney Australia vacations can be fairly pricey, but there are certainly more expensive places in the world that offer less. It’s possible to enjoy the largest city down under on a budget because a lot of its offerings are free for the looking.
