Here’s another smoothie for seniors recipe. We all like our cup of java in the morning, but sometimes that dark brew has an unsettling effect on an elderly person’s stomach. Here’s a way to smooth out the smoothie.

By adding some ice cream (yummy!), a banana, and coffee flavour, this could become one of your favourite smoothie recipes.

For seniors trying to gain weight, this morning treat has a wallop of calories along with a chilled coffee flavour to start your day.

Banana Coffee smoothie

1 cup milk
1/4 cup Suisse Mocha Instant Coffee Beverage Mix
1 ripe banana
2 scoops vanilla ice cream

In a blender, add 1 banana, 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup Café Suisse Mocha Mix and 2 scoops vanilla ice cream. You know what to do - blend smooth and enjoy!

Here’s another favourite coffee smoothie.

1 cup milk
1 container (175 g) vanilla low-fat yogurt
1 small banana, cut into chunks
3 Tbsp. Instant Coffee Beverage Mix, any flavour
1/4 cup ice cubes

Combine 1 cup cold milk, 1 container (175 g) vanilla low-fat yogurt, 1 small banana cut into chunks, 3 Tbsp. coffee mix , any flavour, and 1/4 cup ice cubes in blender container.

Blend until smooth, and enjoy another smoothie for seniors treat!

Variation - Strawberry smoothie for seniors

Prepare as directed, substituting strawberry low-fat yogurt for vanilla yogurt and 1/2 cup halved strawberries for banana chunks. If using frozen strawberries, omit ice.


Citrus smoothie

For those seniors watching their waist-lines, here’s a low-calorie treat that’s refreshing any time of day.

1-1/2 cups skim milk
1 cup orange juice
1 pouch CRYSTAL LIGHT Tangerine Grapefruit Low Calorie Drink Mix
1 cup plain low-fat yogurt
2 fully ripe bananas
1 cup ice cubes

Blend all ingredients except ice in blender until drink mix is dissolved. Add ice; blend until thickened and smooth.

How to Make One Smoothie

For a single-serving smoothie, prepare using 1 pkt. (2.4 g) Crystal Light Singles Tangerine Grapefruit Low Calorie Drink Mix and half the remaining ingredients.

Substitute
Prepare using Crystal Light Strawberry Orange Banana Low Calorie Drink Mix.


Ok, I admit it. This one is just plain decadent. If you’re a peanut butter fan like me, then this could become your favourite smoothie for seniors recipe.

-1/2 Tbsp. KRAFT Peanut Butter
1 cup chocolate milk
1/2 banana
Blend 1 cup chocolate milk with a heaping spoonful of Kraft Peanut Butter and 1/2 a banana until smooth. Go for it.


Strawberry Daiquiri Jr. JELL-O Smoothie smoothie-for-seniors-02

Many seniors make lifestyle choices that don’t allow alcoholic beverages (wisely, I might add). But if you like to imbibe without imbibing, here’s a non-alcoholic treat for one of our favourite smoothie for seniors recipes.

Pour 1/2 cup boiling water into a blender. Add 1 pkg (85g) JELL-O Strawberry Jelly Powder. Cover and blend for a couple of seconds. Scrape sides of container.

Add 2 cups of vanilla ice cream, 1 cup of milk, a handful of sliced strawberries and a few handfuls of crushed ice. Cover and blend until smooth.
