Seniors Golf for Active Aging

Greetings again, I am glad you joined me.

I mentioned my gym in my last column, how glad I was that I had joined. I also joined Weight Watchers, and succeeded in losing 40 pounds. That, together with my gym experience, was a whole new life to me.

I didn’t set any world records as far as being fast at losing the 40 extra pounds I had accumulated. It took much patience and the encouragement of the staff at Weight Watchers. After a learning experience of what I could successfully eat, I slowly but surely lost the weight a little at a time. You learn to give your body the vitamins, minerals and nutrients it needs, and hunger is not an option. I felt satisfied throughout my programme.

Weight watchers encourage walking and exercise, and my new-found gym experience took care of that. I don’t know of a doctor who doesn’t recommend Weight Watchers as a healthy guide to weight loss. Senior Golfer In the summer I also golf one day a week (yes, I am a fair-weather golfer), having started a dozen years ago at Mylora Executive Course, in Richmond, Canada.  I belong to the Ladies Thursday Golf Club. It is inexpensive and the emphasis is getting out and playing, not your score. We have no handicaps, in fact you don’t even have to keep score if you don’t want to.  Of course there are the usual prizes for the top golfers.  We have a start-up breakfast meeting, two barbecues during the season, and a wind-up luncheon with prizes and a delicious lunch. This is all for the sum of $60. which is a bargain, I think you all will agree.

I have been golfing with the same wonderful group of ladies for 10 years. There again, you may choose to play with different groups or stick to the same group;your choice.  The staff at Mylora are wonderful, with much encouragement and friendliness.  Their low green-fees are also an attraction.

I am not a good golfer by any stretch of the imagination, but the emphasis is on walking the course, and enjoying yourself.

So, until next time, good golfing and fore!

June
