Educational Travel Tour

A lesson in Italian cuisine.

Educational travel tours for seniors means that these elderly travelers are traveling with the purpose of learning something new. We all have to eat, even the elderly, and wouldn’t it be nice to learn how to make something exotic to help liven up our individual menus? If we are going to learn how to cook something foreign lets travel to the food’s origin and learn from the best. This week we are traveling to Italy for a lesson in rich flavourful Italian cuisine.

It starts in the local market whether you are in Rome or Florence, where you will have many choices between colourful fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, local cheeses or meats. There are many opportunities for a senior travel group to watch how cheese and liqueurs are made. Of course sampling is expected.

Most cooking schools offer a hands on experience so be prepared to put on an apron and become completely immersed. Many senior travel persons may want to learn how to make authentic pizzas and cook them in a wood burning oven, or create a typical Sicilian dish such as veal scaloppini. Don’t forget the Sicilian wine to go with your meal. After a morning or afternoon of cooking you will probably enjoy a wonderfully served meal in a beautiful dining room or outdoor patio depending upon the weather.

There are classes for the elderly travel person to attend during a morning, an afternoon, a day or a week, depending upon budget and desirability. Costs vary from inexpensive to high-priced depending on the cooking school chosen, accommodation, travel arrangements, tours reserved and length of stay. italy-cuisine-02

Italy is divided into regions and each has its own customs and cuisine. Since there are 20 Italian regions it will depend upon whether the senior travel person wants to visit the cooler climate of Northern Italy or the southern area along the Mediterranean. Each region has its own distinctive spices, wines and cheeses which also should be considered when planning for your culinary travel vacation.

Don’t forget this is a vacation! Take the time from your educational travel tour to visit the Vatican or join an Ancient Rome Walking Tour or attend an opera, for an experience that cannot be duplicated. Find the town where our modern day pasta was created and visit the local ruins of Pompeii. italy-cuisine-05

There are senior travel discounts all over the world for senior travel groups or senior travel clubs to take advantage of. It doesn’t have to be expensive to travel to Italy to learn how to make rich tasting Italian dishes.

It is less expensive when seniors travel in a group so they can take advantage of group discounts but with careful planning even a single senior travel person can find a culinary school that meets their requirements and budget.
