Discovering World Heritage Properties



Let’s continue on our journey with our fellow senior travelers in discovering World Heritage Properties. This week we will carry on with our alphabetic tour continuing with the letter “A”.

Discovering World Heritage Properties:
Andorra

In one of the smallest countries in the world situated between France and Spain is the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley with its glacial landscape featuring terraced fields, houses and summer settlements.

Discovering more World Heritage Properties:
Argentina

A very popular destination by many elderly travelers and senior travel groups Argentina has both cultural and natural properties.

Iguazu-National-Park

1. Iguazu National Park is the site of one of the most spectacular water falls in the world. Surrounded by a subtropical rainforest it is home to thousands of vascular plants and regional wildlife.

2. The Los Glaciares National Park is the home to Lake Argentino where three glaciers meet and forcefully dump large icebergs into the glacial water.

Ischigualasto-Talampaya-Natural-Parks

3. Ischigualasto / Talampaya Natural Parks extend their desert landscape over 275,000 hectares and contain a continental fossil record from over 200 million years ago.

4. For seniors who are interested in the conservation of marine mammals a visit to Península Valdés should definitely be one of the sites that are mandatory.

5. The Jesuit Missions of the Guaranis include San Ignacio Mini, Santa Ana, Nuestra Señora de Loreto and Santa Maria Mayor (Argentina),and the Ruins of Sao Miguel das Missoes in Brazil were all built in the 17th and 18th centuries.

6. A major trade route, Quebrada de Humahuaca is a valley with visible traces of prehistroic hunter-gatherer communities.

7. For senior travelers to see exceptional examples of cave art from over 9,000 years ago then a visit to Cueva de las Manos, Río Pinturas is necessary.

8. The heart of the Jesuit Province of Paraguay is the Jesuit Block and Estancias of Córdoba where the residence and church of the Society of Jesus can be found.

Discovering World Heritage Properties:
Armenia

1. The Monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin were very important centers of learning during the 10th to 13th century and known for its studies of calligraphy.

2. Cathedral and Churches of Echmiatsin and the Archaeological Site of Zvartnots are excellent examples of the evolution of the cross-hall type of church.

3. For examples of medieval architecture your senior travel club must see the Monastery of Geghard and the Upper Azat Valley where many churches and tombs were cut into the rock.

Discovering more World Heritage Properties:
Australia & Austria

The countries of Australia and Austria have numerous World Heritage Properties and they will be expanded upon in future articles for those elderly travelers who are interested in these many sites.

Discovering World Heritage Properties:
Azerbaijan

1. Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape is important because of its evidence of quality rock art images depicting hunting, vegetation and pre-historic lifestyles.

Walled-City-of-Baku

2. The Walled City of Baku with the Shirvanshah's Palace and Maiden Tower provides a glimpse into historic architecture influenced by the Zoroastrian, Arabic, Sassanian, Persian, Ottoman, Shirvani and Russian cultures.

The above are just a small example of the planned destinations of both single elderly travelers and senior travel groups whose goal is to discover the World Heritage Properties.
